F.A.Q.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS.
This is where the moderators will answer questions about the game, D.Gray-man, the period, etc. Feel free to email it to us or just comment here.

-

Do I have to have read D.Gray-man to join the game?
No, you only must know about DGM if you are playing a canon character from it.

At what point in D.Gray-man does the game begin?
Before the Ark; all Exorcists should be at the Headquarters, because they have been called to Britain to investigate why there is a bunch of Innocence there all of the sudden. Also, most of the Noahs will be in Britain as well.

Can we apply for characters that only appeared in the anime?
Yes, though you'll have to work out the character's position with other players if there are some conflicts.

How many characters can we apply for?
The maximum is 5, but you must get mod approval before exceeding 1. You may only have 2 per fandom, and the characters cannot be closely related in any way, so you won't roleplay with yourself. The only exception to this rule is if your character has a pet or familiar of some sort, but it is optional to play that.

What if I'm stuck in a thread with someone who hasn't posted in a week?
You can move on or skip their turn.

What do we do if someone in a thread I'm in goes on hiatus?
They should write themselves out of the scene. But whether or not they have, you are allowed to move on.

There are a lot of different spellings for my character's name, what should I do?
You can choose how you want to spell the name, but please be reasonable about it. After that spelling is approved (and we'll let you know in your application), you can continue to use that spelling. Other players will be expected to use it as well, as this is your character.

How/when will my character's item activate?
It will happen on its own, but there is no telling when. Your character cannot choose when it will be activated, unless they work very hard at trying to awaken it. And still, there's no way to tell whether or not the Innocence will be compatible with them.

Moderators will decide when Innocence activates. You will either be contacted privately, an NPC may make a post about it in one of your threads, or there may be a list posted publicly of Innocence that will activate soon.

Can we choose what type of Innocence our character will get?
An out of character discussion will be held on it, and then a decision will be made from there.

If my character doesn't know what destroying the Innocence will do, will they still become a lesser Noah?
Yes.

If someone else destroys the Innocence, will they or the proper user become a lesser Noah?
The "owner" that came to the world with the Innocence will be cursed as a lesser Noah, whether they were the ones who broke it or not--as the Innocence's "guardian", it is their job to make sure that nothing happens to it. If something does, they will be punished.

What if I don't want anything to happen to my character?
Then... your character better be pretty damn careful with that Innocence.

If my character dies, will they become an Akuma?
Only if someone tries to revive them. In that case, if you wish to continue playing them, you can. Otherwise, they will become an NPC. Most Akuma are killed quickly anyway.

Hello~ I have a few questions regarding the application and just in general, but thought I'd ask here since it IS the FAQ page. =P

1. If we decide to play a character not from DGM, are they being taken from their canon? And if so how are they being brought here?

2. On the application, you ask for the character's history and background and whatnot. This is in regards to their canon?

3. What if we decide to play a character from an anime that doesn't have any sort of power or "special" item that they bring with them, and are otherwise normal, how does that fit in to the story and 'what' becomes their innocence?

I'm sorry if they sound like stupid questions lol. It's late, I'm tired but I'm quite interested in the game but I just want to clear things up before I reserve a character.

1. Yes, characters are canon. How they are brought here is explained in the introduction, under "Heart of All Innocence." It explains about how the Innocence is bringing characters from other worlds into the DGM one. Basically, the Innocence is "possessing" one to three items owned by your particular character, and coming in contact with that "possessed" item will cause them to come into the world.

2. Yep. This should be all about their canon self.

3. Since what items are "enchanted" by the Innocence are not of the character's choosing (but you, as the player, decide), any item that is somehow associated with the character can work. (Such as Ichigo's sword or Aerith's hair tie.) If the character is just fairly normal, it can just be some every day object they might use often, such as a hairbrush or something.

I hope that all answers your questions. :)

It does, yes! Thank you very much! And lol to my #1 question. I totally misread what that meant on the page. But I get it now. xD

I'd like to ask some questions too. I've never roleplayed before, but this game looks really fun, so...

1. How will you deal with language barriers? For example, if I picked a character who can only speak Japanese, will they have to learn English, or will they be automatically able to understand/speak to everyone?

2. In the application guidelines, what do you mean by "Where does your character pick up in their particular series?" This would be the point in their series they were at when they encountered the Innocence, right?

3. Finally, and most important - is roleplay very complex (i.e. are there a lot of places where a newbie could mess up)? I would like to join, but I don't want to spoil everybody else's fun by screwing up all the time.

Thanks!

1. The language barrier is still there, however, members of the Black Order tend to speak all kinds of languages so if your character happened upon someone from there, it wouldn't be totally unrealistic if quite a few of them spoke Japanese, at least a broken version, or be able to recognize it and find a proper interpretor. The people in the Order come from all over the world. The Noahs, however, probably only speak English and Portuguese, and maybe a bit of other European languages...

2. Yes, it means at what point in their particular series are you picking them up from--like "pre-chapter 4" or "post-ending", etc.

3. Well, I see you write fic here and there, it's pretty much like that except you only control one character, and you aren't always in total control of the setting (as everyone must work as a group to build the scene and all). :) It won't be very hard to learn about it once you are seeing other people doing it as well, and if you remember to respect all the rules (like not controlling someone else's character), you should be okay. I'm not sure how much you need to know, but I do have a basic little RP guide for complete newbies you might want to look at, here (nevermind that RP place is totally different from this one, hahaha). That aside if you need anymore help, let us know.

Hey, I am interested in joining this game, for it looks very interesting, but I have a question.

Could I possibly apply for a character who has died in their cannon world, but have them alive here?

I'm guessing the answer is no, but I thought I'd just ask. The character in question is Gekko Hayate from Naruto, if you were wondering.

That is acceptable, actually. You can apply as them at the time of their death or some time before it.
